Adventures in Juju: Journey to the Kollack Game
This is Valerie’s first novel. A children’s chapter book novel all written in rhyme. want to be that writer that writes children’s books that resonate with you for the rest of your life. She describes this book as a magical journey similar to one of the Wizard of Oz books. This book is especially close to her heart as it was the last bedtime story book she had the privilege to read to her son. At thirteen years old, he described the book as, “Where the Sidewalk Ends, but Extreme!”
This manuscript is just over 40,000 words in loose couplet rhyme and is aimed for 9-12 years old and the first of a series Valerie has started. Adventures in Juju: Journey to the Kollack Game is a magical and light hearted romp as the reader travels through the fantasy world of Juju, experiencing different fantasy cultures and experiencing the aftermath of a civil war between the artificially intelligent and organically intelligent peoples all on their way to the famed “Kollack Games”, guided by SIR JAMES (an artificially intelligent man) and consistently being thwarted by the sinister notorious “Magician”.
Some of Valerie’s favorite parts:
- Lightbulbs that grow in the grass
- A robotic pup that eats bolts, then poops them out, then eats them again.
- A town filled with artificially intelligent people that has only one bathroom: in the center of the park and brightly colored, so those that need to use it can be properly publicly shunned and spat oil at.
- Travelling via toboggan through the mountain.
- Travelling via a car that runs on air using bellows that look like clown horns and floats via attached hot air balloon.
Valerie plans one more round of edits than hopes to self publish.
Adventures to Juju: Shorts
These short poems also written in the the world of Juju can be found in the Blog section. At some point, Valerie also hopes to run this through another round of editing then self publish this collection as her second book.
