What to Expect
*Non-Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club members please arrive 5 minutes early with your ID at the reception desk for gym sign in paperwork. If utilizing the Kid’s Central babysitting service please arrive early enough to complete the required paperwork and get your child properly situated before your session.
The session time includes intake forms and any other time before getting on the chair/table. It also includes 5 minutes after the hands on time for you to dress. It does not include the time to clean the room/table/chair.
Your session is paid by the hour and not by the technique or type of massage (unless specified by a specific promotion). During your session we will discuss what your goals are for the session (ie. manual lymphatic drainage, shoulder pain relief, migraine support, relaxation, grief management…) and we will discuss a plan of action to best meet your goal(s). This often consists of a blend of the different technique styles I offer.
Also, I am not a “pain is gain” therapist. I do not believe that a session has to “hurt” to be effective, even when using deep tissue techniques. Deep tissue techniques does not necessarily mean deep pressure. However, if your preference is for a deeper pressure session, this can be accommodated.
Accommodations
For your comfort, I have the following accommodations available during your session.
- The table is automatically heated unless requested otherwise.
- The table includes arm extensions making the table wider for more availability to spread out or to better accommodate larger body types.
- Breast cushions are available for the face down position. This is a cushion that includes holes for the breasts to avoid compression to the chest during your session. (This is great for people that are nursing or suffer from sensitive breast tissue.)
- Wedge cushions are available if you require to be in a semi-recline position or require a larger cushion underneath your knees during your session.
- Proper pillowing is an automatic part of the setup if you require a side lying position during your session.
- After your session, you will be offered a hot moist towel to better refresh yourself or wipe off any access oil.
Routines
Though therapeutic massage is all about customizing a session to meet your needs, here is a list of some routines that you may request that Valerie regularly performs.
Face/Head/Neck/Shoulders Massage
This massage can be really great if you are experiencing headaches, allergies, sinus congestion and anxiety. This routine is performed with relaxation in mind. It is performed face up only and includes a combination of techniques such as Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Acupressure, CranioSacral Therapy, Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage and includes a hot towel on the face.
Head/Neck/Shoulders/Back Massage
This routine is meant to help ease pain in the neck, shoulders and upper back regions. This routine is performed in both face up and face down positions. This primarily utilizes Manual Lymphatic Drainage to your neck and shoulders and Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage techniques to your neck, shoulders and back.
Upper Body Only Massage
This routine is meant to help ease pain in the head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and back, as well as for relaxation. This routine can be great for those that work over a computer all day long. This session may be performed face down only or may be performed both face up and face down depending on the goal specified. This routine may include some or all of the following techniques: Manual Lymphatic Drainage, CranioSacral Therapy, Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage.
Lower Body Only Massage
This routine is meant to help ease pain in the legs, feet, hips and glutes. This routine can be great for runners. This routine may be performed face down only or both face up and face down depending on the goal specified. This routine may include some or all of the following techniques: Manual Lymphatic Drainage, CranioSacral Therapy, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage.
Full Body Face Down Therapeutic Massage
This session is meant for relaxation and general body maintenance, and generally includes a few focus areas. It works the entire body in a face down only position. The advantage to this massage is that you avoid rolling over during the session which can disrupt the relaxation experience. This routine may include some or all of the following techniques: Manual Lymphatic Drainage, CranioSacral Therapy, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage.
Full Body Face Down and Face Up Therapeutic Massage
This session is meant for relaxation and general body maintenance and generally includes a few focus areas. This routine works the head, neck, shoulders, arms and hands face up and the neck, shoulders, back, hips, glutes, legs and feet face down. This routine may include some or all of the following techniques: Manual Lymphatic Drainage, CranioSacral Therapy, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage.
Calves and Feet Only Massage
This routine is meant to help ease pain and tension in the lower legs and feet. This can be great for plantar fasciitis and bunions. This routine typically utilizes mostly Deep Tissue Massage techniques but can include reflexology techniques upon request.
