What to Expect

The session time includes intake forms and any other time before getting on the chair/table. It also includes 5 minutes after the hands on time for you to dress. It does not include the time to clean the room/table/chair.

Your session is paid by the hour and not by the technique or type of massage (unless specified by a specific promotion). During your session we will discuss what your goals are for the session (ie. manual lymphatic drainage, shoulder pain relief, migraine support, relaxation, grief management…) and we will discuss a plan of action to best meet your goal(s). This often consists of a blend of the different technique styles I offer.

Also, I am not a “pain is gain” therapist. I do not believe that a session has to “hurt” to be effective, even when using deep tissue techniques. Deep tissue techniques does not necessarily mean deep pressure. However, if your preference is for a deeper pressure session, this can be accommodated.

Accomondations

For your comfort, I have the following accommodations available during your session.

  • The table is automatically heated unless requested otherwise.
  • The table includes arm extensions making the table wider for more availability to spread out or to better accommodate larger body types.
  • Breast cushions are available for the face down position. This is a cushion that includes holes for the breasts to avoid compression to the chest during your session. (This is great for people that are nursing or suffer from sensitive breast tissue.)
  • Wedge cushions are available if you require to be in a semi-recline position or require a larger cushion underneath your knees during your session.
  • Proper pillowing is an automatic part of the setup if you require a side lying position during your session.
  • After your session, you will be offered a hot moist towel to better refresh yourself or wipe off any access oil.

Massage Options

2-Consecutive Massage Sessions

Make a social event out of your massage experience by bringing a friend, a family member or partner to your massage! This session consists of two consecutive 30 or 60 minute sessions. Both clients will remain fully clothed the entire time. One person is on the table while one remains in a chair then swap places for the second session.

When booking the session, fill out the intake for the first client. There is an additional 15 minutes built in to the session for the additional time needed for the second person’s intake time as well as the time to change people on the table.

After your massage experience, feel free to continue the fun by utilizing some of Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club’s great opportunities including dry and steam saunas, hot tubs, walking track and more!

CranioSacral Therapy (Certification in Process)

CranioSacral therapy focuses on harnessing the subtle rhythms of the CranioSacral system, which involves the production and circulation of cerebral and spinal fluid. Unlike traditional massage techniques, CranioSacral therapy employs gentle holds rather than vigorous rubbing, inducing a deeply relaxing and grounding experience. Clients often report feeling lighter and clearer-headed after a session.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Certified)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle hands-on treatment aimed at reducing inflammation accumulation, increasing lymph production and movement, promoting venous return, and providing soothing and potentially analgesic effects. Valerie offers this service as a Manual Lymphatic Drainage only session, a blend of Manual Lymphatic Drainage with Swedish Massage session or partial lymphatic drainage as part of a Therapeutic Massage service.

Prenatal Massage (Certified)

Prenatal Massage is usually performed in a side lying position. The massage session is usually divided into two halves, with each side of the body receiving attention before the client rolls over.

Recommended schedule for Prenatal Massage includes once a month until the third trimester, then every other week until the last month, then weekly up to the 41st week.

Once cleared for labor, Valerie has a labor prep routine to help prepare for the body for labor.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is all about customizing the experience to fit your specific needs. Valerie combines different massage styles and techniques based on what you’re looking to achieve, whether it’s working on an injury, relieving tension, improving flexibility, or simply unwinding. You bring your goals to the table, and Valerie’s expertise ensures they are addressed in your priority order.
