Dishwasher, Series Sam, Edition three hundred and thirty three,

Came off the production line, shiny and cherry.

He was immediately being shipped to a family in Foy,

To be adopted by a Christina and Richard Clark and their girl and their boy.

Sam giggled as he was packaged in his box,

He dreamed of large kitchens and foxy refrigerators with digital clocks.

He was loaded onto a primitive wagon for the long haul,

And strapped in tightly to ensure he didn’t fall.

On the way he played a game of rating and counting the bumps,

From big and bouncy to slow rides over long humps.

He tried to beep loudly in case someone else would want to play,

But no one answered him along the way.

Sometimes there was a lot of outside chatter,

And light seeped into his box as he heard all the clatter.

Then his box was moved as he was loaded onto a train,

Where he delighted in the chug and the chug and the choo choo and the sound of the rain.

Then the air got dryer and the sun more unrelenting,

Making his electronics hot and him feeling a little fuzzy with a slight ring.

Then the air was cool and damp and his box got very dark,

As the sounds echoed off the enclosed walls as he road through tunnels before they eventually parked.

This time he was loaded onto a dune buggy with a chittering doorbell.

This was Doorbell, Series Jane, Edition one hundred and five, from what Sam could tell.

Jane spoke in a slightly different language, so Sam engaged in Morse code.

But Jane found this primitive language beneath her, so she promptly stopped talking as they rode.

Yet, long last, after entering another tunnel in a mountain, Sam was delivered to the Clarks’ doorstep.

Which he sat very comfortably, until Mrs. Clark saw him and wept.

Sam was a surprise from Mr. Clark, and Mrs. Clark was filled with joy.

The kids ran outside to see, and marveled at the new toy.

Mr. Clark, brought the box containing Sam inside,

And carefully sliced open the cardboard, so Sam could no longer hide.

“Hello there,” Mr. Clark said with a very warm smile.

Not programmed yet for English, Sam just lit up and beeped excitedly for a while.

And in the background as Mr. Clark was pulling out the old tired dishwasher to discard,

Refrigerator, Series Brenda, Edition three hundred and forty five, turned on and put up her guard,

A new shiny AI dishwasher and he was looking so handsome,

Brenda tried to straighten up as best that she could as she started to hum.

Sam’s lights lit up one at a time in a line.

He was excited to meet someone new, particularly someone so fine.

He beeped hello and as she replied, learned they spoke the same language!

How great to have another AI that is on the same page.

Mr. Clark picked up Sam, and the first touch by an OI felt slimy, squishy and wet.

When Sam was locked into place, Mrs. Clark peeled back the plastic and that tickled a little bit.

After a few presses of some buttons a silky voice with an American accent greets the Clarks with a “hello.”

The kids clap and jump, as Mr Clark begins to load the bottom shelf sitting low.

The dishes are hard and wet and drip and ooze left behind food onto Sam’s floor.

Then, Mr. Clark added soap and closed the door.

Being full was an unfamiliar feeling for Sam.

Then Mr. Clark spoke, “Sam, start load, normal cycle,” while ceremoniously waving his hand.

And just like that, water came rushing inside Sam in a hot steady stream,

Pouring and rolling and dripping inside him then pushing out steam.

And when the water drained it was a new sensation, like a tickle as the water forcibly left him in a steady stream.

And this process happened again and again until he was just clean dishes and hot steam.

And when he was done, he set off signals everywhere in a joyous exclamation and a flurry of beeps.

Brenda beeped her applause, which brought satisfaction to Sam in heaps.

Then, Mrs. Clark, opened Sam’s door as he vented a woosh of steam in her face,

And he felt chills as she took a clean dish from out of its place.

“Sam, you are just wonderful,” she declared as he got lighter with each dish being removed.

And he was a proud dishwasher fixed to where he stood.

Yes, Sam was quite content with his new purpose in his new home with his new family and friend.

And the Clark Family was excited to welcome a new AI device to his trip’s end.
