Salina Valentine had long red hair and sky blue eyes.
She wore a dress made of entwined barley and rye.
The whole community came and enclosed her in a ring,
Then, they proceeded to ritually sing.
Salina was finally old enough for her magic to come in,
And this was how for the Autumn Fearies, it was going to happen.
And the surrounding song
Will bring the magic along
And Salina will fly for the very first time,
Her wings flapping to the fearies’ song’s time.
Unlike the Spring fearies, Autumn fearies stood full height.
They walked with a regal air and they traveled only in daylight.
Their skin is luminescent and the hair thick like dried grass.
Their cheekbones are jutted and angular, like a five pointed leaf one might pass.
Their mouths are round like acorns and their eyes are shaped like drops of dew.
And their clothing always took on an everchanging hue.
They are gentle in nature as they prepare the lands for change.
Salina was the budding fearie who would set this year’s magical stage.
Salina was very nervous as the magic was starting to sting her fingertips.
It was electricity coursing through her with a sharp pain and she bit down on her lips.
The wings burst forth from her upper back.
She arched back as the bone started to form with a crack.
Her body was then thrust into the air
As she shook as the magic pulsed through her there.
Her eyes were like candles, the light flickering in the wind.
She crouched like a tiger then was thrown into a back bend.
Her new wings buzzed with newborn excitement.
And the newborn magic rendered them a bright tint.
Filled with a community of magic, all Salina had to do was draw a breath in and blow.
Then the magic started spreading and the wind put on a show
Of dancing air currents playing with the trees,
Bending them to bow and subtly changing the color of their leaves.
And the rain clouds rejoiced and applauded with sparks of lightning and claps of thunder
And the earth shook with joy as the loose dirt started to rumble.
The Summer Fearies were being laid to rest,
Bid well done for doing their best.
And the Autumn fearies rejoiced and danced until dawn,
Where they closed themselves in and quieted their song.
Salina stood with her brethren as a full grown adult.
She was ready for her new responsibility and finally understood what it was about.
